About Us

Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta is one of the oldest and premier institutes of art education in India. Boasting about 157 years legacy, the college has always been a seat of academic excellence. GCAC is a co-educational seat of learning and affiliated to University of Calcutta. Currently the institution follows the Choice Based Credit System (C.B.C.S.) for its undergraduate programmes. From 2005 the institution has also commenced the doctoral degree programme (Ph.D.) in Fine Arts. It is the only fine arts institution in the country to offer a specialized course in Indian painting. The institution has received an ‘A’ from the NAAC accreditation committee in 2007.
