About us

The Veterinary College in Bangalore holds a significant historical legacy, tracing back to its inauguration on July 25, 1958. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the then Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B.D. Jatti, and the college commenced its operations at the Mysore Serum Institute, which is now known as the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAH & VB).

The college’s current campus, sprawling across a 196-acre plot, was formally inaugurated on January 6, 1962, by His Highness Maharaja Shri Jaya Chamarajendra Wodeyar, the Governor of Karnataka at the time. Initially affiliated with Mysore University, the college transitioned to become a constituent college of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, in 1965. This transition coincided with the adoption of the trimester system of education, aligning with the land-grant system of education.

In 2004, with the establishment of the Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), the college became an integral part of the veterinary university system. This move further bolstered the college’s commitment to excellence in veterinary education, research, and outreach.

Notably, the college commemorated its golden jubilee year from September 2007 to August 2008, marking fifty years of dedicated service and contributions to the field of veterinary science and education.
