Education (B.Ed)

Pedagogical excellence for shaping future generations of educators

Teaching

The ‘Taittiriya Upanishad’ through its renowned adage `Matha, Pitha, Guru Deivam,’ teaches us that Guru (master or teacher) is to be treated and respected as God. This would prove the importance of teaching which has been considered a godly-like profession from the very past; might be because every teacher is expected to lead the students to the real and right knowledge.
Teaching is one such profession of greater nobility and respect. Those seeking a career of respect and esteem may choose this career. Teaching profession being a service of higher social respect, a teacher must possess socially accepted virtues and should try to become a good model to the coming generations.
It means that those aspiring to become teachers should cultivate good habits and must be disciplined in their lives. Flair knowledge, quick to learn, open-mindedness, polite and modest behaviour, etc. are some of the desired qualities of a teacher.

The number of schools, professional education institutes, colleges and other education-related institutions shooting up day by day, there is wider scope for teachers. A teacher’s ob may vary from lower primary teacher to senior secondary teachers, headmistress to ean of studies in universities and so on; depending on one’s qualification and capabilities. But surely each of them enjoys great social respect and dignity.

B Ed

B Ed (Batchelor of Education) is considered the basic requirement for attaining a job in schools as teachers. It is normally a one year training program. However there are universities which offer B Ed of two years. IGNOU is an example for this. Anyone who has completed a B Ed program remains eligible for applying for a teaching post in government as well as private schools.

Eligibility

The basic eligibility for B Ed program is the completion of graduation with minimum 55 percent of mark in the subject applied for. After completing post graduation also students join this program.

As it is a masters program, this offers wider chances for acquiring better remuneration and better career success. A teacher with M Ed certificate seems more likely to receive promotions in comparison to a teacher with mere B Ed certificate.

Eligibility

The basic eligibility criterion for M Ed program is passing B Ed. with not less than fifty five percent marks. Reservation is there for the backward classes. Some universities have set the eligibility target as 50 percent of marks in B Ed. In this case too, the aspect of being a model is what one should have in mind while preparing to do an M Ed course. As the society expects only virtuous deeds from the teaching class, it is good that only those with high moral values and respect for virtues take this profession.
